Before 1901, Australia consisted of six independent British colonies. copyright usage wasn't common, and when necessary British or other nationwide passports had been used. In the nineteenth century, paroled convicts have been issued a type of inside copyright called "ticket of go away", which enabled them to move freely in between the colonies.[10
